The Art Deco Style of Calypso lights up the boutique interiors of Hotel Indigo in Venice designed by THDP
London-based interior design studio THDP, winner of the renowned Gold Key Awards of Boutique Design Magazine 2019, was recently appointed by HNH Hotels & Resorts SpA to design the first Hotel Indigo in Venice.
Originally a convent, Hotel Indigo is located on the island of Sant’Elena, at the eastern end of Venice, away from the clamour of St. Mark's Square and just a few steps from the Biennale Gardens. On the way to the hotel is a Mediterranean tree park, which sets the tone for the new botanical decor chosen by THDP, featuring the use of foliage and tree themed wallpaper as a perfect introduction to the internal courtyard garden where guests can enjoy lovely views over the private garden and the delightful alleyways of Sant'Elena.
Legend suggests the area takes its name from a saint, Elena, the mother of Emperor Constantine, whose remains were brought to Venice from Constantinople.
A palette of Byzantine-inspired deep hues of oranges, green, and gold explains the designer’s choice of the Calypso suspensions for illuminating the hall and lobby of the hotel, complementing the exotic tone of the sophisticated environment.
Designed by Servomuto, Calypso is one of most representative expressions of Contardi's sartorial ability in the skillful use of precious fabrics whose textures and geometric patterns mix with bright colours to create iconic and timeless designs. Characterised by a chunky green braided silk rope and tasselling detail, the suspensions of Calypso family are available in different shades: Martinique, Antigua and Guadalupe, which enhance and illuminate, with style, every indoor and outdoor space they occupy.
